Solid Surface Stone – Composition, Structure, and Applications
1. Composition
-
Natural mineral powder: Mainly aluminium trihydrate (ATH) derived from bauxite ore, providing hardness and a smooth surface.
-
Binding resin: Usually acrylic resin (premium quality, colorfast, easy to fabricate) or polyester resin (more affordable but less color-stable).
-
Color pigments and additives: Pigments and stabilizers used to create a wide range of colors, stone-like patterns, metallic effects, or translucency.
2. Structure
-
Solid, non-porous material with no surface coating.
-
Color and pattern run consistently throughout from surface to core, allowing sanding or polishing without affecting appearance.
-
Thermoformable, enabling bending or complex shaping.
-
Seamless joints achieved with adhesive made from the same material, creating a continuous, smooth surface.
3. Applications
-
Residential interiors: Kitchen countertops, kitchen islands, bathroom vanities, decorative shelves.
-
Commercial projects: Reception desks, bar counters, display tables, cashier counters.
-
Medical & cleanroom environments: Laboratory benches, operating room surfaces, food processing areas (thanks to its non-porous, bacteria-resistant properties).
-
Architectural decoration: Wall cladding, column cladding, partitions, artistic surface designs.
